The highest quality is one of the main differentiators of the metal shelving designed and manufactured by ATOX Storage Systems. But ATOX’s commitment goes beyond quality, with a philosophy based on Corporate Social Responsibility, which materializes in actions such as its commitment to the United Nations Global Compact. As part of this commitment, ATOX has published its new Global Compact progress report, available in the Corporate Social Responsibility section.
The progress report includes a letter of renewal of the commitment and a section for each of the ten principles of the Global Compact, exposing the policies and actions that ATOX Storage Systems carries out to comply with said principles.
The 10 principles of the United Nations Global Compact
The United Nations Global Compact is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Its goal is for companies to adopt and promote a set of core values in the areas of human rights, labor standards, the environment, and anti-corruption. These values are specified by the 10 principles of the Global Compact, which are listed below:
Human rights:
- Principle 1: “Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally recognized fundamental human rights within their sphere of influence.”
- Principle 2: “Companies must ensure that their companies are not complicit in the violation of Human Rights.”
- Principle 3: “Businesses must support freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining.”
Labor standards:
- Principle 4: “Businesses should support the elimination of all forms of forced or coerced labor.”
- Principle 5: “Companies should support the eradication of child labor”.
- Principle 6: “Businesses should support the abolition of discriminatory practices in employment and occupation.”
Environment:
- Principle 7: “Companies must maintain a preventive approach that favors the environment.”
- Principle 8: “Companies should encourage initiatives that promote greater environmental responsibility.”
- Principle 9: “Companies should encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.”
Anti-corruption:
- Principle 10: Businesses must work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
The UN Sustainable Development Goals
As far as Sustainability is concerned, 2016 has been characterized by the promulgation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals, abbreviated SDGs. These objectives define the global priorities and aspirations to be achieved by 2030 to face the economic, social and environmental challenges of the planet.
Between 2000 and 2015, the 8 Millennium Development Goals had been proposed. The SDGs take over from them, expanding them to 17 and promoting the participation of companies, highlighting the role played by the private sector as an engine of innovation and development. The SDGs seek to ensure that both governments and the private sector and civil society incorporate these 17 objectives, which allow the common and universal goals necessary for the sustainability of our planet to be achieved.
