ATOX light guidance outperforms voice picking and RF picking

The ATOX light-guided system outperforms other order picking systems such as voice picking and RF picking in terms of performance and profitability. This was confirmed during the VIII Warehouse Automation Conference held in Madrid, where topics such as the automation of intralogistics for e-commerce, the return on investment of automation, what and when to automate, etc. were discussed. Víctor Burón, consultant at ATOX Soluciones Tecnológicas, gave a presentation on the keys to optimizing picking, comparing different order picking systems, and success stories with the implementation of ATOX light guidance.

Optimizing picking

Modern logistics chains are facing increasingly demanding requirements imposed by the continuous growth of e-commerce. In recent years, large online sales companies have popularized increasingly shorter delivery times. Today, 24-hour shipping is commonplace, and the trend is moving toward same-day delivery. End consumers have become accustomed to these times, which places much higher demands on smaller sellers.

This requires order preparation to be much more agile and efficient. Traditional systems such as paper picking can no longer meet the necessary levels of efficiency, and systems such as RF picking and voice picking offer an increase in picking process performance that is still insufficient. During the picking process using these systems, up to more than 80% of the time may have to be spent on consulting and locating references, picking validations, and warehouse staff movements.

The light-guided system, designed and manufactured by ATOX Storage Systems, is designed to provide a solution to these limitations. Through pick-to-light operations, operators are guided to each slot on the shelves, optimizing their route and eliminating the time spent consulting and locating references. In this way, in addition to speeding up order preparation, human errors in the operation are reduced. The coordinated operation of the light guidance system with ATOX’s intelligent roller conveyor system minimizes operator movement. Overall, ATOX’s light guidance system achieves a 160% increase in picking staff performance.

The ergonomics of ATOX’s light guidance system boosts warehouse staff productivity, even with temporary staff during peak demand periods. In addition, its flexibility allows for different picking strategies (zone picking, batch picking, etc.), the system can be configured according to different workload requirements to operate with different numbers of pickers, and it provides greater flexibility for slotting optimization and the implementation of ABC inventory classification.

ATOX committed to the logistics sector

During the 8th Warehouse Automation Conference, in addition to being a speaker, ATOX also participated in the discussion panels, as part of its philosophy of collaboration, information sharing, and its commitment to boosting productivity in the logistics sector by optimizing storage space and productivity in handling processes.

Víctor Burón, consultant at ATOX Soluciones Tecnológicas, answered questions from attendees on strategies for efficiently automating order preparation, discussed the return on investment of automation, and shared the experience of ATOX Storage Systems, which, with more than 50 years of history, has optimized the intralogistics of warehouses in most business sectors across various countries in Europe and Latin America.

ATOX Storage Systems is an internationally renowned manufacturer of metal racking, storage systems, and automation solutions. ATOX designs and adapts its storage solutions to the specific needs of each warehouse, increasing warehouse profitability by optimizing storage space and streamlining intralogistics processes.
