The Sustainable Development Goals, abbreviated SDGs, of the United Nations (Sustainable Development Goals, abbreviated SDGs) define the global priorities and aspirations to be achieved by the year 2030 to combat the enormous economic, social and environmental challenges that our planet is facing. .
Previously, the Millennium Development Goals had been defined, with 8 objectives between the years 2000 and 2015. Some of these objectives were met with reasonable success and others were not. But the SDGs take over from them with a more inclusive philosophy, extending the involvement to governments, companies and civil society.
Companies are called upon to propose ways of contributing to solving the challenges of sustainable development through innovation and corporate social responsibility. It is proposed that the private sector align its business objectives with the sustainable development objectives, motivating itself through the global benefits that will be obtained if we all pursue universal common goals and, even, identifying future business opportunities that will arise from sustainable practices.
