In 2002, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations approved the International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures ISPM number 15, which established the guidelines to regulate the wooden packaging used in international trade, and which would be later modified, approving its new content in 2009.
This standard affects all types of wooden packaging with a thickness greater than 6 millimeters that is made up in part or in its entirety of raw wood, and is expressly including wooden pallets. The objective of this standard is to prevent the spread to third countries of pests, insects or parasites that the wood could contain.
On July 1, 2013, the new order AAA/458/2013, of March 11, entered into force in Spain, in order to better apply the NIMF standard number 15 of 2009 and providing that controls can be carried out by independent control bodies.
For the details of this new order, you can consult the Official State Gazette of March 22, 2013.
